Why locals love it

During the Continuation War, the Germans built the Sturmbock Stellung fortress on Lake Kilpisjärvi, which was used to control the ports of the Arctic Ocean. The fortress area of Jämärä is a museum part of this German fortress. The museum area has been restored with dugouts, battle graves and colonies. The area includes a museum building and a café.
