Kittilä is a municipality located in the western part of Lapland. The municipality is home to about 6,500 people and covers an area of 8,263.00 km2. Kittilä belongs to the Fell-Lapland region. The city was founded in 1868, and is still the growth center of Lapland today with its wonderful natural sites through tourism and various industries.
Why you should visit it
The earliest inhabitants of the Kittilä area are known from the Bronze Age and Stone Age approximately 3,500–3,000 years ago. The Kittilä area has also been a strong residential area for the Sámi, which moved further north due the settlements of the 19th century.
