now opened as cafe
TOOTH TOOTH maison 15th（旧神戸居留地十五番館）1
Why locals love it
This is the former U.S. Consulate originally built in 1880, soon after Kobe Port has opened to other countries. Now it is opened to public as a cafe. It sits in the area called “former foreign settlements”(旧居留地), in which we can see some other old buildings from 1890s.
Why you should visit it
It tells us how Kobe started it’s development as a modern port city. Its neighborhood was constructed by English civil engineer J.W.Hart about 150 years ago. This building is now registered as Japan’s important cultural properties, being one of the Kobe representing historical sites.
