The Nilivaara's Reindeer Separation Fence is an area used by Metsähallitus and local reindeer herders to separate and slaughter reindeer. The ancient separation fence has been made with traditional construction techniques, using only the ax as a tool.
With traditional techniques : Sturdy tree trunks have been raised on the neck of growing trees or perks and the extra openings have been blocked with pine rhizomes and stones. Nails and bolts were not needed in the structures and they usually lasted decades within in active use of herding reindeer.
