Why locals love it

At the beginning of August the annual Seenachtfest takes place in Konstanz. About 50.000 people watch it every year. During daytime there are a lot of events on the festival area like waterski-shows, bands, kids entertainment, food stalls etc. The final of the festival is a firework over the lake.

Why you should visit it

One of the biggest fireworks in Germany in cooperation with Switzerland. The Germans start with the firework, then it is Switzerlands turn to join in. There is usually an annual theme and music. Don't miss out.

Special tip

Locals avoid to pay entrance and there a few spots where you can watch the firework for free.

I'm intrigued to go this year with my family visiting from abroad but have a few questions: How long do the fireworks last for? I read somewhere that if you watch the fireworks on the Swiss side, you don't pay for a ticket? But that would mean you can't walk through all the markets, food stalls, music events on the German side right? Also, if we decide we want to be away from the crowds (where the main event is held) but still get a view of the fireworks, could you recommend places/streets to be? TIA, Angela

Hello Angela, the firework lasts for about 30 min. Usually Konstanz starts with the fireworks. In Konstanz the firework comes along with music. After the firework on the German side of the boarder, the Swiss will start with their firework. In the end, there is a common final, from both sides. In Switzerland the festival is named "Fantastical" Meanwhile it isn't for free anymore, but it has been for several years. Kids unter 16 are for free, adults have to pay 7CHF. Yes, indeed you have to choose one of the festivals. I think there is a lot of entertainment program on both sides of the boarder. But in my opinion the program really fits for family with kid, although I think it is too expensive for a family trip. You can't hardly get out of the crowd. The best place to watch it for free is on the "Bismarkturm". It is not overcrowded, you often can hear the music as well, and the view is fantastic. And it will be for free :-)
