Why you should visit it

Gelati monastery was built in 12th century by the king of united Gerogia – David IV The Builder. It was a religious and educational center of Georgia. Church of The Virgin is fully painted and covered with frescoes of 16th century. There are graves of the kings of Georgia and Imereti in Gelati. Also here is a grave of David IV The builder.
