Why locals love it

Gelati is one of the oldest and the most beautiful monasteries in Georgia. There is the grave of David IV The Builder, an academy of 12th century and frescoes of 16th century in monastery. The environment in there is so charming and peaceful. It near Kutaisi so very easy to access.

Gelati monastery was built in 12th century by the king of united Gerogia – David IV The Builder. It was a religious and educational center of Georgia. Church of The Virgin is fully painted and covered with frescoes of 16th century. There are graves of the kings of Georgia and Imereti in Gelati. Also here is a grave of David IV The builder.

Special tip

In churches women should wear long dresses and headdress, man should wear long trousers.

It's Monastery complex built by Greatest Georgian King David, author of Georgian Golden Era (Middle ages). Amazing Architecture, beautiful landscapes and views, makes you feel magnificance of this place.

Gelati Complex was a residence of Kings, built in 12th century by Georgia's most powerful king David the Builder. It was the place of concentration political and religious power in middle ages, serving a center of a Kingdom. It is located on the hill in the beautiful countryside near Kutais. You need to reach it about 20 minutes from the city.
