Why locals love it
The Palotunturi Hiking Trail is located in Western Posio, north of Pernu village. Palotunturi is part of the Old Forest Conservation Program Area, Mustarinnantunturi and Keikkikaira wilderness areas, which are characterized by high altitude differences, forest and swamp variations, and naturally occurring spruce tree forests.
Why you should visit it
The Great Palotunturi Mountain rises 391 meters above sea level and is thus the highest point in the west Posio. The scenery from the top rewards the hiker at the end of the day with a lovely scenery. The trail runs through beautiful canvas of terrain, spotted with marshes. The average demanding journey is about 4 km long marked by paint.
Special tip
In lacking swamps, the paint marks on the trees may temporarily disappear from the view of the hiker.
