In the times of Kiev Rus era Golden Gates was the main and ceremonial entrance to the city. Only Kings, ambassadors and troops went through it. For those times Gates were enormously big and strong establishment made of stone and plinthiform bricks. And today it remains like a menory to the power of Kiev in 11-13 centuries
Today you may see the gates restored. Its modern look is rather approximate as no exact drafts were not saved. But inside of the passage you can touch 1000 year old walls that remained intact. And to emphasise the greatness of this place in the end of 19 century Golden Gates was surrounded by beautiful green square with famous Termen Fountain.
Very logical to start sightseeing excursions and walking city tours from this place
