Historical site in downtown Lafayette, easy to get to and holds a lot of history and culture. The home has period furnishings, historical and cultural memorabilia, Mardi Gras costumes and other art and special collections.
Circa 1800, the Alexandre Mouton House was built by Jean Mouton, founder of Vermilionville (present day Lafayette). The home was later occupied by his son, Alexandre Mouton, who became Louisiana's first Democratic Governor. Easily accessible by walking and bicycling, and close to the Atakapa-Ishak Bicycle Trail.
