It's considered the very heart of the city and Lima's landmark, because the most important and representative buildings in the historic downtown area are located around this plaza for instance the Government Palacio, the Metropolitan City Hall, the Archbishop's House, the Parroquia del Sagrario.

Why you should visit it
That's where the history of Lima began, plus that's where most of the locals go to hang around especially on weekends. One thing that characterizes this place is the bright yellow color of most of the buildings, as in the past the yellow color was related to the Sun God so there's a symbolism behind all of this.
Special tip
Get there before 10 AM for visiting the museums of the Cathedral of Lima and at the Archbishop's Palace and then to watch the changing of guards.
