Why locals love it
An architectural mark of Lisbon, with a beautiful facade where you can admire the huge glass panes. The main materials used in its construction were glass, iron and red brick. Being a true pioneer in its time, regarding electricity production, providing power for lighting Lisbon streets.
Why you should visit it
There is a permanent exhibition, which is the Central itself and the equipment that was part of the installation of the production unit. However, due to the large size of the interior, the space is also used for thematic exhibitions. Inside, you have the restaurant “Amo.te Tejo”.
The coal was the element responsible to the Central’s operation, arriving by frigate. So the river is just few meters, you might meet some fishermen.
