Why locals love it

A monument that reminds the conquests of Portugal. And being built near the river, Torre de Belém and Jerónimos, it's a monument that reminds us how great we could be. The viewpoint at the top is a great surprise. Prepare your camera!

Why you should visit it

Monument to the Discoveries is a monument on the northern bank of the Tagus River estuary, in the civil parish of Santa Maria de Belém, Lisbon. Located along the river where ships departed to explore and trade with India and Orient, the monument celebrates the Portuguese Age of Discovery (or Age of Exploration) during the 15th and 16th centuries.

Special tip

Don't forget to taste "Pastéis de Belém", 10 minutes walking from here.

It's the place where all the Portuguese heroes of the discoverys from the 1400's and so on are represented in a big statue. A must see in front of the riverside
