My husband and I wanted to do a short excursion outside of Lisbon, and we were very lucky that we had heard about Joao. We wanted to do a short trip to Obidos, and it was very easy to arrange with him. He was responsive, punctual and organised. In addition to Obidos, Joao recommended that we visit Peniche as well - we appreciated this recommendation, since the place was beautiful and not something that we would have otherwise known about (even though we partially live in Lisbon). If we had more time, we also would have liked to visit a vineyard that Joao recommended. His English is excellent, and he is overall very informative. We liked that he let us be "independent" and wander around Obidos, stop for food, sightseeing, etc - the tour was informative but not too rigid and formal.

Highlights

Enjoy sightseeing at the Montejunto Mountain

Visit the Quinta do Gradil Winery and sample local wines

Explore the Óbidos Medieval Village on a guided tour

Sample typical gastronomy of the west at the optional lunch

Description

Departure from Lisbon towards the fabulous Farm and Winery of Gradil, located in Cadaval, once belonging to a famous Prime Minister during the monarchy – Marquês de Pombal. In the farm, there will be a visit to the winery, vineyard, Marquês’ Palace and its chapel.

At the end of the tour, wine tasting will be offered with an excellent selection made by the winery, where you can taste the four top wines of this cellar and appreciate its peculiarities.

Lunch at Poço dos Sabores restaurant, in Usseira, where you can taste, in a cozy and professional atmosphere, some of the best delicacies from the West Region gastronomy.

After lunch, visit Óbidos Castle, a place that needs no introduction, as it is the most beautiful and best preserved medieval village in Europe, where you can wander through its narrow roads, appreciating local commerce and craftsmen and with a bit of luck even taste freshly baked bread in a wood-fired oven.

To wrap it up, it is mandatory to taste one (or more…) famous Ginjinha de Óbidos, an exceptional cherry liquor that won dozens of international awards over the years.
