On my recent visit to Lisbon with our football team (16 adults), I organized a Sitgo tour of Alfama's old town. 11 of us presented for this excursion on a lovely Sunday morning in late March. I had booked on line and the Sitgo guys were very comfortable as I could not give exact numbers. We were given a 10 minute training slot and by 1130 we were accompanied by our guide Pepe and our cameraman Goncalo. It was the best fun trip I had experienced for some time while we wondered about the old town. Pepe was excellent with all his knowledge of Lisbon and we had time for a quick Chocolate and Liquor stop on our way. The fun was great and we even sang some song verses as we enjoyed our sitways. Basically just to explain a bit about the sitway these are a form of Sedgeways but here you are in a sitting position. They are easy to get used too and you will be up and running in no time. The highest speed is about 16 miles per hour and the hills of the old town were easily negotiated as we made our way to the gates of the street. George's castle. Finally, I don't think this would work without the excellent input from our Sitgo, Pepe and Gonçalo guides, who kept the whole 90 minutes relaxed and enjoyable and for € 25 of money well spent. Description

Starting from the Cais do Sodré area and crossing the majestic Praça do Comercio on our Segways, we will visit the Old Town district of Alfama.

Alfama is Lisbon's oldest quarter. Spread over the south-eastern slope of the hill crowned by Castelo de São Jorge, the picturesque neighbourhood is composed of a maze of narrow streets, winding alleyways, and steep flights of steps. Its Kasbah-like layout is deliberate - this is the city's ancient Arab district. Alfama derives from the Arabic word Al-Hama that means "source of good water".

One of the few areas of Lisbon that wasn't destroyed by the big 1775 earthquake, Lisbon's old quarter offers many things to see. The tightly-packed lanes, small archways, and stone-paved terraces are full of atmosphere and great fun to explore. Besides the castle, there are several historic 17th-century churches in the vicinity, as well as the city's impressive cathedral.

Alfama also wakes up at night. Some of the city's most authentic restaurants open their doors to serve delicious traditional cuisine and plenty of bonhomie, with traditional Fado houses where this unique Portuguese musical expression can be appreciated in romantic surroundings.

C
A unique and fun way to explore the old city
My family first tried this when they were in Lisbon last week and we really enjoyed it! It was very funny! We explored the streets of the old city with our guides who were very friendly and very informative. It was an experience we have never had before and I recommend it especially if you have teenagers with you. They will really enjoy this alternative tour.
K
Fantastic completely recommend it
We went on the night drive. As it was at the end of the season there is only my husband and I. The segways are really easy to operate and the guide was knowledgeable and fun.

We cross the conked streets of Alfana district to the Se Cathedral and back down. We stop for cherry - cherry liqueur in chocolate cups - which is not to like!

I am desperate to do this again.

Fun way to see some of the city
My teenage daughter and I took the Old Town Tour. Although we had already walked around, it was really informative and interesting to learn more about the history and buildings in the area.
The sitgos were a lot of fun. We were a little apprehensive at first but they were easy to get off the slope of, although my background was a little sunken af the end!
A very fun hour and a half. I would definitely recommend - the reactions of other tourists as we passed also made us laugh!

I
The best part of this day in Lisbon
The Parque das Na turned out to be not only beautiful, but much more interesting after this tour. I was guided by hello Gon who knows many stories about the place and was really nice while driving us through them as we went together sat in the future, as they say. The sitway seemed a challenge to me, but it ended up very quickly in a fun and different way to visit the site. . . Amazing architecture, fair cost, great orientation. I highly recommend this activity.

Far from walking! Wheels are here to stay .. a truly multi-sensory experience!
We are a family of 4 and booked with SitGo weeks before arriving in Portugal; a decision we are so happy to have made. Ieda & John are wonderful guides; They kept us in their sights at all times of safety and connecting us every step of the way! Although the meeting was postponed to an unexpected road closure and they had to drive their van to us on a different route, we were able to keep each other posted via Wi-Fi, so you'd better have it on your phone. We had a lot of family and group fun with the guides. They are very knowledgeable with their history of places we stop at. Our only regret is that we no longer had time to walk in the Alfama / Fado district, especially the church. This is not the guides fault, but my just as instead of checking the interior of the church, I would have preferred to check out a pottery shop that we passed before arriving at the church :). . . We totally recommend this tour to everyone so it is very valuable for your time and money. We do not feel discomfort or pain throughout the next day either. . . a truly wonderful way to see parts of Lisbon and we want to repeat another SitGo experience in another city for sure! ! ! You go guys, you have a good product there! !

Very fun and unlike anything.
I had the opportunity to make a Night Riders. It was amazing, we went through very typical places of the Alfama neighborhood and still had a Ginjinha. The guide knew a lot about the sights. I highly recommend it.
