Description

We’ll drive through the province of Estremadura to Óbidos, a well-preserved town surrounded entirely by walls, known as the Village of Queens. After a comprehensive tour of the town, you’ll be invited to try the famous Portuguese cherry liqueur 'ginjinha'. You’ll then have some free time to explore on your own.

Óbidos is located near the small fishing town of Peniche, which boasts magnificent coastal scenery. The fishing industry is especially important for its 30,000 inhabitants, with many restaurants specialising in fish and seafood. Strange rock formations can be seen at Cabo Carvoeiro on the westernmost point of the Peniche peninsula. We’ll take a short photo stop here, admiring the coastal scenery along the way.

Continuing north through the hilly landscape of the west coast, we’ll reach Mafra. Mafra Convent has inspired several Portuguese writers, including José Saramago who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988. We’ll visit this imposing convent, which is actually the largest baroque building in Portugal.

Our final destination will be the romantic village of Sintra.
