Any nice (not so touristic ;)) restaurants in LJU?!

(6 answers)
By Tiina Traveller August 12, 2017

Me and my boyfriend are coming to LJU for a couple of days at the end of august. We are searching for nice, cozy and preferably affordable restaurants that locals favour?
Any other secret "must-experience-" hidden gems there?

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I shall recomend you some restaurants with Slovene food. Because no travel is complete withouth trying out local food. Am I right? Firstly, there is Gostilna Šestica, they have a wide range of slovene tradicional foods. Make sure you try our famous potica (- with wallnuts) or some other goods like štruklji, goveja juha, pražen krompir, kranjska klobasa, jota, prekmurska gibanica (Note: allot of our traditional food is with meet). Vegeterian slovene foods would be ajdovi žganci, štruklji with cottage cheese, and some other but you rarely find them on menus. Secondly, I recomend Slovenska hiša it has a lot of wines, cheese plates, and slovene breakfasts. Try out Cankar coffe (i think you will dig how it is served). If you are up for a hike (45min) there is a restaurant Ledinek on top of Šmarna gora, it also has a lot of traditional food. Other (-not so traditional) good restaurants are Jurman, Centralna postaja, Aroma, Lizarran (spanish food), On thai, Mirje (italian food). Ljubljana is small so there are not many "not so touristuc" restauranst sorry. Anyway I could go on and on.. :P so i will just give you a link to a really good website where is everything your heart desires (about Ljubljana ofc.).

Tina, hello, if you like meat I'd recommend Deset v pol, the address is Litijska 47, bus nr9 and 13 stops just on the opposite side of the street. It's Balkan (Sarajevo to be exact) style cuisine. As interesting fast food I'd expose Fari's Delice on Miklošičeva street 32(?), ran by Fari, symphatetic guy from Iran. Secret gem is for shore Odprta Kuhna (Open Ktchen), on summer Fridays on the main food market under the castle along the river. There you can try different food from different quality restaurants, very good and interesting but quiet crowdy.

Try out one of these:
- Ek zajtrkovalnica is good for breakfasts and brunch
- Valentin is a fish specialised restaurant
- Špajza, Julija and Valvasor are good restaurants for lunch or dinner.

Enjoy your stay in Ljubljana. If you would like to ask something more just do it. :)

Be good
