Why locals love it

If food makes your world a brighter place then it’s time to hot-foot it to London's most renowned food market. The edible delicacies at the bustling Borough Market will make all of your dreams come true. And more. There’s cheese, pestos, chutneys, breads, olives, sweets, fresh vegetables...the list is endless.

Why you should visit it

Take the long route and walk there over London Bridge for some mean views of Tower Bridge. Once there, you can buy yourself lunch and then simply peruse through the various stalls, taste-testing the other treats on offer. Finish it all off with a pint at The Rake. It may be the smallest pub in London but it's more than a little bit awesome.

Special tip

This is the home of Kappacasein's famous toasted cheese sandwich, that is honoured by critics amongst London's top 10 sandwiches. Must eat.

Borough Market is set off the back of the river Thames which in itself is a beautiful walk, it is a busy and exciting place for real food lovers, full of charm, history and character.

Borough Market is quite popular with tourists and is always crowded. It’s near where I live so that is where I buy some essentials such as eggs, milk and fruits. But I also like wandering around the stalls, and after trying most places, here are my top pics: Coffee-The Colombian Coffee Co., at the open area near the Southwark Cathedral. Pricey but if you love your coffee, this is the best one. Next on list is Notes, in same area, and of course the most popular, Monmouth Coffee, with its own shop on Stoney St. Cheese/dairy - Neal’s Yard Dairy. Food- Porteña’s empanadas, Northfields Farm burgers, Padella if you’re willing to queue, Lobos for tapas, Roast sandwiches and the restaurant above is also a good choice for proper sit-down meals. Gelateria 3bis for gelato. Unfortunately have not found a truly good place for pastry/desserts that I am happy to recommend (yes i’ve tried in all the stalls).
