It's a haven in the heart of the city, with excellent beers and good food at a great price. The cellar is medieval, and the ground floor bar was built in the early 20th century to look as if it was from the 14th! If you get there before 5pm, the booths are often free and form the perfect place for a London-style late night session!
Fantastic atmosphere that is both buzzing and very quiet/intimate - if you can get a booth! There are hundreds of pubs in the local area, but they are nearly all very expensive and usually rather terrible - but the Cittie of York has an excellent range, is very cheap (and high quality!), and did I mention the booths enough already?
Get there before the financial industry kicks out for the day and it is usually very easy to get a seat!
