What are the best search sites to use when it comes to looking for rent in London? I'm looking for 1 year long rent and would also be nice to know what kind of scams to avoid.

Try this link
https://www.gumtree.com/property-to-rent/uk/room+available

You also can place an advert in the room wanted section in the Gumtree.

Also checkout the local papers in the area you want to rent. There may be a electronic version of the local papers where there may be an "accommodation to let" section.

Don't pay any deposits without seeing the place and do bit of checks on the ownership of the property to avoid scams.

You also can get help from estate agents. They could advertise at a high price. Try to bargain. See the going rate for the area. Don't sign a contract longer than the minimum necessary. You must have a get out close. Again don's leave a deposit without seeing the property and few checks on the landlord etc.

Hi Isabel, my first recommendation is for you to rent outside Greater London. Not central London. Notably, areas such as Greenford, Ruislip, Uxbridge, Iver, Langley, Windsor and Slough where the rental is around 38% lower compared to being in the centre. When looking for Rental property ensure the Landlord gives you government recognised short-hold-Tenancy agreement and most important your deposit uses the government scheme. When you leave the deposit is refundable less any major damage to property or furnishings. You can expect to pay around GBP 1,000 on average for a One bedroom Unfurnished apartment. Let me know and I can be specific on the areas where you can commute to work within 20mins by train into central London and 5mins to major motorways. Best regards, Jay
