How safe is Tottenham?

Hello!

My partner and I need to go to Tottenham to shoot some b-roll for a short-doc we're filming. We're just taking 2 small DSLR cameras and tripods. Is this going to cause issues or danger during the daytime?

Sally, The UK is one of the safest countries in the World. London is a multicultural city with some of the best historical tie-backs so perfect for photography/videography. Tottenham is a great place - need not worry. All you need to do is be polite, considerate and pre warn people before commencing your shoot and you will be fine.

Shouldn't think so. But, like anywhere it depends what you're shooting. I mean if you rock up and stand outside Seven Sisters station and point the camera at the street drinkers and start filming, then yes, they'll probably have an issue. So would anyone. But if you're just taking general shots you should be fine. Just think about whether you're blockng other people's way etc and be considerate.

Tottenham has a really bad press, most of it designed to sensationalise and sell papers, rather than give you a real insight into the area. I've lived here for many years and love it. Sure, it can be a bit gritty, but it's not a no go zone. You can walk through the High Road with a Gucci bag. You can walk through the High Road with a Gucci bag open. On one of those trips you might lose your purse. See what i mean? Use common sense and you'll be fine.

One final word. Avoid a time when there is a match at the new Spurs stadium. It all gets a bit hectic for about 2 hours before and after. Not troubling, just heavingly busy, with road closures and queues at the stations.

Hi Sally
Theft in Tottenham accounts for around 4 percent of all crime. This figure is relatively low. Keep your wits about you and you’ll Be just fine.

Shouldn't be a problem but be wary of Tottenham Hotspur as fans will be getting tickets for the next few days so will be very busy around that area.

It’s largely residential and a poor area but don’t let that deter you.

I would suggest you be very careful. You may want to take a couple of extra people with you for extra security even during the day. Good luck.

Err, have you ever been there? Can you point to it on a map? I live there and this is, frankly, nonsense.
Like anywhere in London or elsewhere, assess the risk yourself by understanding the neighbourhood you are visiting and consult local police for advice.
