Just to add; I wouldn't pay any attention to the suggestion you should take a cab home from work rather than public transport! the P.T system here works well and Highbury is really well connected.

Having just read that person's comment I think they meant right now with the virus :-) as they also mention the two metres apart haha

Ahh yeah, I think you might be right!! I thought they were suggesting it's not safe to get bus/tube home from work! It's all this self-isolating, i'm losing the plot, and clearly the ability to read also..:-)
You are blessed to be able to live in one of the nicest areas of London. There are some wonderful tree lined streets there and Highbury fields is a lovely park, plus you have CLissold Park nearby. Enjoy!!!!

A flat in Highbury - lucky you. It's a great area with a great history. Arsenal fans are spirited on match days, but there is always a good atmosphere. It's as safe as anywhere can be. There is a nice community vibe and public transport is excellent. You need to be savvy, just like you would in any city. The previous advice about mopeds, and phone snatching - it was indeed particularly bad in Islington, but has been dealt with well by the police and isn't the problem used to be. Still, beware, use your phone discreetly, and not in the middle of the street.

Should be fine. It is a lot more contemporary an area these days and attracts young professionals

Hello Crystal,
Is it in Highbury and Islington?
If so it's totally fine! The area is one of the best near the city centre

Hi Crystal
Highbury is great in that it is in Zone 2 with great transport links and it is lively with lots of shops and entertainment, and if you are genuinely going to be in Highbury, rather than the Angel, then you will also benefit from Highbury Fields.
I used to live and work in Islington for many years and loved it there. I now just work there.
So, to answer your question, I think it's a great place to live, but the main thing to be really aware of is using your mobile phone on the street. There is a big problem with youngsters on moped and bicycles who ride around and will steal your phone from your hand. This is a problem that is not exclusive to Islington, but it does seem to be a BIG problem there.

Hi Crystal, just to echo what others have said. Highbury is a lovely part of town,
particularly around Upper Street; lots to do, lots going on. I'd say you're as safe there as you would be in any other part of London. I've lived in London for years and it's nowhere near as unsafe as people might think or the media might lead you to believe. It's a great City to live in. You'll feel like a 'Londoner' in no time at all. You'll love it, have a great time!!

Hey! I used to live alone in Dalston and found it fine :-) in my opinion London isn't as unsafe as people make out. Most crime is gang related or things like phone mugging so my biggest advice is to keep your phone away, keep earphones out of your ears and just be aware of who is around you. I'm not far from Highbury and I think its nice, but I would say the closer to the station / bus stop is always better. I'm always coming home alone and now live in a slightly quieter part of the area and I just follow the rules I mentioned above. If in doubt try a self defence course, something all women should do anyway!

Hello Crystal, yes it's safe don't worry. But it's better to use a cab rather than public transport and keep your 2 meters distance.

Take care

I’d say yes. I used to live there and it’s generally a quiet area, and depending on where the flat is you will be less bothered by the influx and exodus from Arsenal matches now the stadium has moved. Transport is very good, with overground, Victoria, Piccadilly underground and buses so you won’t be walking far at night.

Many young people live, work and socialise in this part of the city.
You should be perfectly safe. Have a great stay.

Yeah that’s a safe area as far as London goes. I think most people would say that north and west London are safe and easy and south can be a bit off.
