Why locals love it

Monument was built to commemorate the Great Fire of London. It's a great place to be able to see London from different angles. The spiral staircase is great to climb up. At a certain point it gets more narrow and so, trickier to climb but once you hit the top and get past all the picture taking tourists – you can walk around and take in the sights.

Why you should visit it

It is a great piece of history and is a very beautiful ode to a tragic event. Looking at it from the outside – you would not think that you could walk up. A reasonable £4 to climb the Monument guarantees you a much deserved certificate when you make it back down.

Special tip

Go early to avoid the crowds or at dusk to take in the skies.

BEAUTIFUL VIEWS! The stairs are fairly steep and narrow so if you don’t like tight-spaces this might not be for you, but I loved the history and the climb wasn’t too bad for me!
