Monument was built to commemorate the Great Fire of London. It's a great place to be able to see London from different angles. The spiral staircase is great to climb up. At a certain point it gets more narrow and so, trickier to climb but once you hit the top and get past all the picture taking tourists – you can walk around and take in the sights.
It is a great piece of history and is a very beautiful ode to a tragic event. Looking at it from the outside – you would not think that you could walk up. A reasonable £4 to climb the Monument guarantees you a much deserved certificate when you make it back down.
Go early to avoid the crowds or at dusk to take in the skies.
