Where ramen was cool before it was cool

Why locals love it

Before ramen became trendy in the US, this was (and still is) where Los Angelenos went for delicious authentic tonkotsu style ramen. For many of us, waiting patiently outside on the sidewalk for a table at midnight here is a religious experience.

Why you should visit it

Sure you may have had ramen in your city, but this is ramen the way it used to be... when it was scarcely available except for a few places in a few cities on the west coast. The music, atmosphere, and vibe has been described by Japanese ex-pats like stepping back into a classic ramen house in 1950s Japan.

Special tip

In hot weather, order Tsukemen. It's essentially a bowl of ramen deconstructed where you dip cold noodles into the hot broth.
