Griffith is a great place to geek out about astronomy and get some great views of the city at the same time. Once a month they host a Star Party, which basically means there's telescopes out you can use and astronomers you can ask questions if you have them.

Great views, superb hiking trails, always crowded but a sight nonetheless.
