J. Paul Getty Museum - Things To Do in Los Angeles - LikeALocal Guide

Why locals love it?

This Getty Museum is not to be confused with the Getty Villa, which is located along PCH. This museum is located off of the 405 freeway in Santa Monica. This museum feature art fro historical times to contemporary.

Why you should visit it

The architecture of this building is much more modern than the Getty Villa. Furthermore, there is a rose garden outside with a distant view of the beach. There are also featured exhibits that change throughout the season depending on what time you go.

Special tip

You can plan your visit online.

Architecture and the garden are exceptional. Superb views especially the day after a rain or wind. If possible, catch the architecture tour (which is free) and only lasts about 30 - 45 minutes. It is very informative and will change the way you observe the buildings. The garden tour could have been shorter. I don't enjoy their permanent collection, but the photography collection is good as well as their temporary exhibits.
