Why locals love it

The Apple Pan has been a staple in LA since the 1940s--and its menu has barely changed since that. With a focus on good burgers, fries, and pies, the food is constantly delicious and very classic Americana fare.

Why you should visit it

This restaurant is locally famous, and is definitely a throwback to American life in the 40s. The restaurant consists of a single u-shaped counter, with the kitchen at the center. Even the cash register is retro! If you're looking for a great burger and even better pie, this is a must-visit.

Special tip

They are cash only, so make sure you have some on hand.

The Apple Pan is the best damn burger in town. However, some people don't like it because it has too much hype. So let me make plain: this isn't a fancy gastropub putting grilled onions on some crazy masterpiece. This is a roadside, diner, socal burger at its finest. Nothing more nothing less. It seems most people prefer the hickory burger (with has a tangy sauce), though I love the steak burger (which comes with relish). BEST banana cream pie, hands down. Be warned that it's cash only, you'll likely have to wait for a seat (standing to the side like everyone else -- do be polite and let the people who got there before you pounce first), and the guys at the counter aren't likely to tolerate your shit.
