Why locals love it
Madrileños love their churros, and this is the place they go for the real thing. The beautiful chocolatería with it's classic interior, is an iconic part of the SOl area and has served 'churros con chocolate' for more than 100 years. The walls inside is adorned with photos of celebrities visiting, and due to it's popularity it can be busy at times.
Why you should visit it
You can't visit Madrid without trying churros or the thicker porras. Doughnut-like deep fried batter, eaten with a cup of thick chocolatesauce or coffee. San Ginés is like the holy grail of churros, and this old style café's atmosphere alone is worth the visit. Enjoy your churros at the marble tables, and watch the busy staff prepare your treats.
Due to it's location close to Puerta del Sol - where the Madrileños celebrate New Years eve, it's a tradition to drop by San Ginés on the way home.
