This bar and its barmen are so old that they have become a legend amongst the madrileños. The counter, tables and fluorescent tubes haven't been changed since the 1950s, but us locals consider this charming in its own way. The surreal decoration is more than compensated by the ridiculously low prices.

76-year-old Casto has run this bar for 60 years now. You can get a "cubata" (a mix of any soft drink with booze) for 3 euros. Try the "pepito de ternera", a popular hot sirloin beef sandwich. Also very good value for money! People who visit this place tend to be laid-back and sociable. I have found myself talking to lots of strangers in this bar!
This place fills up fast at the weekend, so don't go later than 11 pm.
