Located just around the corner from the buzzing Plaza del Callao, this combined bookstore and café certainly lives up to it's name. A heaven for booklovers who can explore three floors of the written word, and take a rest in the downstairs café, bar and restaurant.

Why you should visit it
While you might not be fluent in Spanish, this store also offers books in English and other languages. You will find everything from comics to thrillers, but the main focus is on subjects like art, photography, design and history. Besides books the shop is also loaded with funny gadgets and souvenirs.
Special tip
La Central is originally from Barcelona, and another store can be found within the popular Reina Sofia museum in Madrid.
