I booked this for myself, my husband and our 16-year old son and our Dutch friends, who also have a 16-year old son, and it was outstanding! Truly one of the highlights of our trip. Our Dutch friends loved the biking, as did we -- and we got to see streets and places that we might not have seen or visited. Javier is the "designer" of the route and he is a fantastic guy -- fun, knowledgeable, passionate about Madrid and a great guide. I would highly recommend this especially if you have teens who might want to be active and not visit one more museum and/or if people in your group have experience biking, good balance and would feel comfortable riding around a bustling city (although mostly side streets -- only a few times crossing really busy streets -- originally I thought this might even be fun for my parents but then realized absolutely not for my dad but my mom could do it because although she is older, she is an avid biker).

Highlights

Muros Tabacalera, the walls of a former tobacco factory.

Pinta Malasaña, one of the most important street art festivals in Madrid.

CALLE Lavapiés, a non-commercial neighborhood colored by many artists.

Description

Street art lovers, graffiti hunters and the bike community are now able to enjoy a new experience in Madrid!

Check with a local graffiti activist the hipster neighborhoods of Lavapiés, Malasaña and Embajadores through a bicycle activity that will take you around during approximately 3 hours.

Firstly, we will explain the history of the local graffiti where Juan Carlos Argüello aka. Muelle, the pioneer of this cultural movement, started tagging in 1989 his name around the streets of Madrid. Once the safety instructions are clear, our guests will head towards Malasaña.

Pinta Malasaña is one of the most important street art events in Madrid. It takes part during the month of April and dozens of artists from all over the globe get to this chic neighborhood where they decorate faccades and metal shutters from different stores. Boa Mistura, Take the topo or Ibsen Art will be some of the names featured.

Next stop in the street art bike tour will be Solar Antonio Grilo, a self-sustained center where the local community created a hub for the creation of arts, nature, socialism...

Cooltourspain will also show you CALLE Lavapiés and Muros Tabacalera, as well as Esto es una Plaza.

Good!
Nice tour around a city center neighborhood, with a friendly and easy to understand tour guide. Tour concluded at a nice food market which would otherwise have went undiscovered. We were disappointed that we didn’t go into the Tobacco factory grounds to view the street art in there- I had read up there was a cafe etc. in there, perhaps it’s now all been closed off to the public.
