Dinner and drinks on a Saturday

(8 answers)
By Maria Traveller January 8, 2019

Any good recommendations for a night out on a Saturday? We are four people in mid twenties/early thirties who usually visit laidback and trendy joints and bars. Got the rec Jimmy's in Northern Quarters so perhaps something nearby?

Visiting for 24h in April (Yes, I am already making an itinerary) Vegan options must be available :-)

Abandon the Northern Quarter and head across nearby Great Ancoats Street to the bars and eateries around Cutting Room Square (walk an extra 5 minutes for great beers at Cask). Head back across GAS onto Oldham Street and finish the evening in the Castle - great jukebox; good crowd. Otherwise get the tram to trendy/leafy Chorlton (plenty of vegans around there!) or West Didbury's Burton Road. Chorlton has a fair few options as.does Chorlton Green/Beech Road a 10 minute stroll away. Newly-trendified Altrincham (also on the tramline) is also an eating/drinking option. Weekend tram tickets are available.

Mackie mayor market is a great place for food and drinks with lots of different food stalls for everyone (including vegans) A buzzy atmosphere with great wine and beer selections too.

Hey,

Northern Quarter will be a great spot to hang out. Try Bundobest (vegetarian) just off Piccadilly Gardens or head to Mackie Mayors for lots of choice for your party.

Head into Ancoats for drinks. Second City and Seven Bro7hers Beerhouse have nice laidback vibes.

Have a great time

To please everyone try GRUB or Mackie Mayor - variety of street food vendors so people can choose the food they want. GRUB I think has the better atmosphere, especially if weather is good but Mackie Mayor is just stunning inside. GRUB also does vegan only Sundays so could perhaps plan to in for the hangover? Never been to Jimmy's but always have a good night in Hula which isn't far. Also check out Yes Manchester, but that's in a different area of Manchester. Have fun!

Ancoats - a few steps from the Northern Quarter - is your best bet. Google Cutting Room Square - there are budget and posh eating options around there; 7 Brothers for burgers and craft beer, Rudy's for pizzas (some of the best I have ever had and I am not a pizza lover). Pop in an hour or so before you want to eat and they'll text you once your table is free. Second City for the footy and Cask bar a few steps away across the canal for some of the best craft beer and welcomes in the North West. If you like a good rock and roll and indie juke box (think the Smiths to Bowie) finish the night off at The Castle back in the NQ on Oldham Street. Faiiling all this try the beer and drinks hall at Mackie Mayor (an old market building) where you'll find something to suit most tastes. If you fancy something totally different jump on the tram for Chorlton (hipster-ville) with good choices on Wilbraham Road or Manchester Road or - a 10 min walk away - Beech Road at Chorlton Green (rather charming). Or stay on the East Didsbury tram and alight at Burton Road for indie bars and a fine selection of international eateries. Mary and Archie (also Chorlton), The Drawing Room (tiny but good cocktails and a brilliant free juke box) are my partic favs - oh and a lovely Piccolino reatsuarant. Get off at West Didsvury instead for a smaller section and a Pizza Express.
