Nowadays, Mauritius is highly Westernized. Malls include worldwide famous shops that are slightly more expensive than in Europe. With very few factories remaining, Mauritius does not offer many competitive textile goods. Most handcrafted items are available at the main Port-Louis market, Caudan mall, and in shops near touristic areas.
Locals usually shop in malls and in cities located in the center, such as Rose-Hill, Quatre Bornes, or Curepipe. If you visit small city shops, always bargain and carry cash (credit cards not accepted.)
