Why locals love it
The Abbotsford Convent is a multi-faceted arts and culture precinct, an oasis away from the busyness that surrounds it. The Convent was established in 1863 by four nuns from the Good Shepherd Order as a place where they could care for women. After it was sold, in 1975, locals fought hard to keep it from being developed into apartments and won!
Why you should visit it
The Abbotsford Convent has a huge range of attractions for visitors, from markets to cinemas, classes to art shows, there's always something happening. There's also eateries, shops and a monthly farmers market. Aside from this, there's also the beautiful buildings, and lovely gardens to check out, perfect for a picnic with friends or to just relax.
In summer, check out The Shadow Electric outdoor cinema for a truly hipster experience! Food vans are often on site if you get peckish during a movie.
