Melbourne is just about the only city in Australia where the locals have taken up cycling. We're a pretty flat city, and not too hot, which makes it easy to commute on two wheels. But when you'd rather go for a leisurely bike ride, the Capital City Trail is a great way to circumnavigate the city.

To be honest, locals *don't* love it. It was expensive, it's hard to get there, and now no-one goes... But if you like creepy places with no people that look like they're straight out of a sci-fi movie, you should go there!

At only 1.5hrs from Melbourne, Queenscliff is well worth a day trip, especially in the summer. This small seaside town makes you feel like you have stepped back in time with its beautiful historical buildings.
It can also be included as a stop on a longer drive down to Torquay, Lonsdale, or further along the Great Ocean Road.

The Abbotsford Convent is a multi-faceted arts and culture precinct, an oasis away from the busyness that surrounds it. The Convent was established in 1863 by four nuns from the Good Shepherd Order as a place where they could care for women. After it was sold, in 1975, locals fought hard to keep it from being developed into apartments and won!

This sports centre is called the Melbourne Cricket Ground, but I recommend heading along for some football. Specifically, if you're visiting between about April and October, go and see some Aussie Rules (or AFL) football. AFL is the sport of Australia, and nowhere is it more popular than in Melbourne.

Sometimes a little daunting, and often missed by visitors, Melbourne's unique laneways are a treasure trove of food, drinking and shopping! There's something for everyone in Melbourne's laneways, and even locals sometimes find they have difficulties re-finding that cute little store/restaurant/cafe that they could swear was there last week!

Lovely little park for friends, families and pets. With a combination of more than 30 stalls and food trucks, this market is a winner with the locals even though it is relatively new. Plenty of public transport if you are not taking the car.

Escape rooms are the puzzle sensation that have been sweeping the world, and Melbourne is no exception. Melbourne's original escape room is called - unsurprisingly - Escape Room Melbourne - and they have three available rooms. Two are in South Melbourne (these are closer to the city and easier to get to); the third is in Flemington.

Australia's most famous outlaw bushranger and national hero Ned Kelly was hanged here. It is also widely considered to be haunted. The Old Melbourne Gaol used to be the prison and execution spot for dozens of criminals in Melbourne's early history. Now a museum, you can step inside the cells and see the conditions of Melbourne's criminal past.

If you're a tropical fish enthusiast this is the best aquarium store i've been too in the greater Melbourne region. The fish stocked include some rare finds not available at other stores and they also have a large range of healthy plants. Worth a visit just to check out their display tanks which are all heavily planted and in great condition.

Only approximately 1hr drive from Melbourne, this walk offers lovely views and a real sense of adventure. In terms of difficulty, it would probably be graded medium/hard as there are some steep sections as well as a wire cable section. It has two loop tracks to choose from, both starting and finishing at Meikles Point Picnic Area.
