Why locals love it
It never snows in Melbourne, but that doesn't mean we can't have a crack at ice-skating. In a country famous for its beaches, winter sports might seem counterintuitive, but the state-of-the-art rinks are a popular year-round way to cool off when that mercury hits the high 30s.
Why you should visit it
The Icehouse is Melbourne's premiere winter sports venue and is the largest of its type in the country. It has has something for everyone: ice hockey matches, skating lessons, and at night it converts into an ice-skating disco for adults. Of course, there's also the opportunity for experienced skaters to just hit the ice with a normal ticket.
Special tip
Tickets are expensive but groups of 11 or more get a discount. This might be a great time to make friends in the queue.
