Dia de los Muertos Fun?

(6 answers)
By Evan Traveller September 17, 2018

I'm visiting Mexico City for my first time during Dia de los Muertos. I'll be with a couple of friends and I have looked around the web trying to find dates or websites for events, but not much comes up! I read about a bike ride around Bosque de Chapultepec, and a couple of must see cemeteries.

Where do locals go to celebrate (traditional or non-traditional) and are there events that we should look into?

Thanks in advance for the help!

You should definitely go for a bike ride through the Chapultepec forest. The whole city will be decorated with beautiful flowers! You must also go to the zócalo and walk along the avenida reforma, sometimes they exhibit giant alebrijes that are some funniest monsters, handmade by Mexican artists

Ofrendas are an essential part of the Day of the Dead celebrations. During our guided tour of the historic center we visit different offerings and explain their meaning.

There is a parade of the day of the dead, which will take place on Saturday, October 27 starting at 11:00 am and until 4:00 pm, starting with the Estela de Luz and the Capital Zocalo as the final point.

The best places in Mexico to celebrate the Day of the Dead...Pátzcuaro, San Andrés Mixquic or Oaxaca

Hello Evan, “día de los muertos” is a big celebration in México traditionally we made something call “ofrenda de muertos”, wich is an altar we’re you put an altar with the picture of the people you are remembering and their favorite food, in “ Día de Muertos” the dead come to visit us but not in an spooky way, but more in a way od celebrating the live of those who are dead.
In Mexico City you can go to Coyoacán to see the ofrendas and there is a parade in the center of the city, also I can recomend you a tour that will take you to Mexican traditional markets so you can buy things for your own ofrenda @EatLikeALocalMX Rocio gives great tours.
I hope, this info is helpful for you

The best place to live the "Día de Muertos" is a small island in the middle of a lake. Janitzio. I really recommend that adventure, it is in Michoacan in a small city called Pátzcuaro. You can google it and see what it looks like! Welcome to México!
