Milan is packed with restaurants that serve a wide variety of world cuisines. Like all Italian cities, it has its own culinary traditions, and thanks to recent waves of immigration, the range of ethnic restaurants has increased enormously.
Porta Venezia has a strong African presence and features numerous Eritrean, Ethiopian, Lebanese and Egyptian eateries. Paolo Sarpi Street (Chinatown) is home to many traditional Chinese restaurants, while Via Padova is known for its little South American bistros. In the Navigli area there are a handful of trattorias where you can taste traditional Milanese dishes, the most famous one being “risotto alla Milanese” (creamy saffron risotto). Another typical local dish is "cassoeula" (a rich pork and cabbage stew).
