Why locals love it

Pinacoteca di Brera (Brera Art Gallery) is very well known amongst the citizens of Milan, both for its outstanding collection of paintings and its Fine Arts Academy. Several of Italy’s most famous artists and writers graduated from the academy, including Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo.

Why you should visit it

The gallery houses a large collection of masterpieces by Italian and foreign artists dating from the 13th to the 20th century. It was founded in 1776 to assist in the training of Brera Fine Arts Academy students.

Special tip

There’s a great art bookshop inside the gallery.

Definitely worth visiting. We went on Sunday and there was a small market in front of it. Also, every first Sunday of the month the entrance is free for this and many other museums, but there will be a long waiting line.
