National Library of Belarus - Things To Do in Minsk - LikeALocal Guide

Why locals love it?

Some consider the National Library of Belarus to be an architectural miracle, others consider it to be the ugliest building in the city. One thing's for sure though – it's incredible. Not only does this big glass "diamond" contain a vast library, it also houses a book museum, restaurants and a gallery with rotating exhibitions.

Why you should visit it

Join a tour to learn all about the building and Belarusian typography throughout history, or simply visit the observation deck for stunning views of the city. Note that opening hours differ for each library department.

Special tip

The library is lit up with LED lights at night, so take a seat at the surrounding park and enjoy the show – it’s an experience on its own!

We hiked across town specifically to see the library lit up at night and thought it was totally worth it. Looking totally like an example of Soviet mania gradiosa, it's built only in 2006, which makes it awesomely strange. And we love strange big things.
