Where to buy pre-paid Internet SIM card?

(5 answers)
By Joanna & Przemek Traveller April 14, 2019

Hi, we're coming for a weekend to Minsk and we would like to use Uber so Internet will be necessary. I was reading different information about Internet cards in Bielarus. Can I just buy a pre-paid card with eg. 1GB Internet that I don't need to pay for long every month? Would you recommend any operator? Where to buy it if we'll just arrive after 20:00. Will anything be opened?

Hi.
Yes, we have what you need. For example:

You can find information about other plans on this page.
It's a good operator and you shouldn't run into problems in Minsk.
If you will arrive at the main railway station, you can buy it in shop center near the station on the first floor. He should work up to 22

Great, thanks!
Hi,
There are three mobile operators in Belarus: Velkom, MTS and Life. They have a wide network of their service points. Their location can be viewed on the websites of companies. You can connect to anyone, depending on the wishes. You can buy a card. You need to keep in mind that you definitely need a passport and personal registration. If you arrive at the airport, then there is free Wi-Fi. You can connect and use Uber - is profitable, and then buy a SIM card.

Hi, thanks for the answer. What does it mean that I need a personal registration? Is it a document?
Yes, you need a passport and your presence.
Joanna, it means that the person on whose name the SIM will be registred needs to visit the branded shop of the operator and bring his passport.
Please, buy only Velcom SIM card. Al ither mobile operators are ABSOLUTELY SHIT.
Velcom has its central office on Oktyabriskaya square in the very center of the city. They have special card for Internet. The adress of Velcom office is Internatsionalnaya street 36

Гена, я бы не был столь категоричен ) МТС вполне себе норм по качеству. А в Минске думаю и Лайф везде нормально работает.
Я пользовался всеми операторами мобильной связи в Беларуси. Velcom/A1 — лучший! МТС, кстати, редкостное дерьмо.

I used to experiment with all mobile operators here in Belarus: MTS is a bombastic piece of crap!

Hello! Out of three operators, I suggest to get a SIM from Life as they have big and not-too-expensive data packages.

You can buy a SIM from the kiosk of Life operator in the airport (till 21:00). You can alternatively buy a WiFi access card from the post office in the airport (24/7).

In the city you can buy a card at any Life branded shop. I suggest a shop in the city centre, at Nezavisimosti 23 (from 10:00 till 22:00). If you arrive late at night, you will have to wait till morning to buy a SIM in a branded shop (SIMs are not sold in e.g. supermarkets).

You won't have to pay every month for the package normally if you don't top it up. As you can only buy the SIM in a branded shop, you can discuss all your preferences with a sales assistant. And bring your passports for SIM registration ;-)
