Icehouse

Why locals love it

Opened by Texas native Nick Hodge and Montreal-born Nathalie Doucet, Icehouse is just that: A marriage between Texas and Montreal. The tiny, shack-like Tex-Mex eatery made up of picnic tables and a terrace for summer serves up tacos, burritos, fried chicken, and homemade sauces. There are no plates here – so don’t be afraid to dig in and get messy.

Why you should visit it

For the ultimate experience, order the ribs slathered in Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce which are delivered in a bucket and thrown onto a sheet of brown paper right in front of you. My advice? Get some napkins ready. Pair your meal with a glass (or pitcher) of bourbon lemonade and you’re all set.

Special tip

If you visit in fall/winter, you may find the deep-fried apple pie or chicken-fried peach tart on the menu – have one even if you’re full!
