Is it safe to visit RUSSIA?

(13 answers)
By jimmy Traveller October 8, 2017

Hello....I intend to visit Russia next year for the World Cup football and enjoy Moscow, St Petersburg and another Russian city.
Is it safe as I have heard that many shopping centres and other places have had terrorism calls when these places have had to be evacuated.....is it true? Do you think it is still good to visit?...I am a single man travelling solo.
Hope to receive your views and maybe open up correspondence by email if suitable for you
Thank you
Jimmy

Hello Jimmy,
Its a great idea to visit Russia for the World Cup.

Winter Olympic games in 2012 in Sochi were the safest in the worlds history, there were no any accidents at all.

And actually Moscow is the really safe city beleive me I was born here and spent 30 years, I wasn`t robbed or beated...
I travel a lot and have been robbed in Paris near ATM machine, in Rio on the beach etc... but in Moscow - never.

Also its a great time to come because it was a great job done here in Moscow to make it very-very pleasant for tourists and pedestrians.

Hope to see u here in 2018.

Best,
Vlad

I have been to Russia three times and I can tell you: it's safe. Russian people are kind hearted. And thanks to Putin and FSB it's a safe place. :) No pun intended. :)

Hey Jimmy, its super safe. Every station of the metro has 2-3 police guys walking around, I have never seen anything like that in any country of the world. The security standards are very high and I am sure will be top notch for the world cup.

Hi
All over the world there is a problem with terrorists. And yes, there were some call and avacuation. But all the point of terrorists is to make disorientation and fear. So It's not more dangerous in Russia then in any other country. And statistically person have 8 time higher possibilities to be gun shot in New York. Yes with all football fans we have some risks but such a big thing will make the government to do some extra work with security system.
And about solo man in foreign country just don't what you shouldn't do like go to the distant areas in the dark cause you never know who can be there. And center is always safe because of all the police and embassy's. Actually I feel more safe in Moscow then in London walking in the late hours

Hi! Of course Russia will be safe country in time of World Cup football. If you buy a ticket on football, you must surely go to the police office at Moscow or may be st.petersburg and register yourself how foreign tourist and visitor of World Cup.
And else, in time of World Cup the safety will be on the highest level because a threat of terrorism undermines prestige my country.

Yes, of course it is safe here. That information about calls has nothing to do with what was going irl. I mean, yeah, these were kinda fake calls made by robots. So that doesn’t mean it is not safe, that means completely opposite- it is too safe to travel here haha

Friends who came visiting me tell me the same: „ wow, it s so clean here! „ „ Its so safe, people are tranquillo! And friendly!“ russia is super! Come and you will see!

Hey! Jimmy, of course nobody can guarantee you safety anywhere you are. However if you use common sense, stay away from heavily crowded places, choose a reasonably close place to stay near city center and learn what to do should an emergency happen, you’re going to have a great time down here!

Hi, Jimmy. Russia is rather safe. But you should be aware that visiting places with lots of people like football matches, concerts, music festivals is a bit risky around the globe now: same in Moscow, London, New York. Because of global theroristic alarms. So to be hundred percent sure come to museums in Russia - we have amazing ones.

Hello Jimmy! Yes, that is true that many railway station, shopping malls and schools were evacuated during September cause of phone calls in different cities. Also I may tell you that some of us think that it's just a training of our police. Level of security in Moscow (and St. Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod) is high. I feel myself in Moscow much more secure than in Berlin. Moscow now is well prepared for World Cup, come and enjoy!
