I stayed with Dmitry, his parents and his wife Ilaria for 2 days, but really wish I stayed for longer. I felt completely welcomed and like at home the whole time. They’re a really amazing and sweet couple, and they drove me around so that I could see some really interesting places. They’re also very knowledgeable about history and travelling in Russia and some other places. Ilaria makes some really delicious cupcakes, and Dmitry’s mom always cooked amazing home-made meals. Both his parents are really sweet and funny (even if they didn’t speak English), and it’s a very nice family atmosphere at their place that I enjoyed a lot. It was also really fun to make my first ever snowman and have my first snowball fight with them! Thank you so much for everything! I wish you the best of luck with your new business, and really hope we’ll meet again!

Highlights

Description

After meeting you at your hotel in Moscow, we’ll take public transport to a Russian dacha in Obninsk – a small city where my parents live. We’ll visit my family, have a traditional Russian breakfast and decide what to do next.

If you like cooking, we can go to the local market to buy some fresh produce and cook traditional Russian food for dinner. The recipes will change based on what’s available at the market, but if you want to learn how to prepare a specific dish – borsch or syrniki, for example – we can do it.

In the evening we’ll enjoy the food we prepared with vodka or homemade wine. During the meal we’ll talk about Russian culture, traditions, politics and history, as well as the Russian mentality.

Free time options:
– Visit Maloyaroslavets: the city of Russian military glory during the war with Napoleon Bonaparte
– Ethnographic museum: a collection of traditional houses and crafts from different cultures
– Banya: traditional Russian sauna
– Ice-skating, snowball fighting, making a snowman, snow tubing
– Barbeque in the forest, mushroom hunting or fishing

After dinner, you can return to Moscow by train or taxi, or you can stay with us for the night and the following day (it will not influence the price).

My short stay with this family is definitely more than enjoyable and memorable! They are very easy going, warm hearted, kind and open minded persons. I love the time i spent with them trying out some delicious homemade food cooked by his mother. The next day we also went for a spin in a nearby town with monuments from the war in that region and a monastery. I absolutely love every moment of it! Guys thanks again for having me for the awesome time 🙂 I hope we’ll meet again soon, in Russia or in Hong Kong 🙂
