If I plan to go from Marienplatz to Olympiahalle with U3 (and later back) which type of ticket is the best and cheapest to buy, where do I buy it and do I need to validate it? Thank you very much in advance.

There are several options. You can get a day ticket for about 10 euros which does not need to be validated at all, it is simply good for the day you purchased it for. If you feel that you might make other trips that day it is a handy option as you can ride all the busses, Ubahns and trams you want.
The cheapest way is a single use ticket which needs to be stamped at the blue machines, usually before you go to the platform. Each stamp is only good for one trip,. This will save you about 6 euro over the day ticket. so long as you don’t go anywhere else.
The ticket machines are underground along the wall in Marienplatz (just go down the stairs where you see a U sign) and if you click on the British flag first everything is in English. I think there is an MVV office there as well , that gives you a person to talk to.

Thank you.
I have one more question if it is not a problem. Should I chose inner zone, XXL area or entire network?
I found the answer. :)
Buy Single trip ticket for innerzone two times...validate always at your originating station ...if you are going to travel more , then single day ticket would be economical ...you can travel anywhere in innerzone ..
