Need some tips for stuff to do alone (female traveller)

I’m visiting a friend in Nairobi this November. She has to work a couple of hours during the day and I’m trying to find out what I can do by myself during this time slot. She is quite nervous of letting me out in the town by myself so certain safety cautions should be part of the decision. I would also prefer to not use my entire budget on Uber (and I also don’t have internet on my phone here - so once I go outside the house I’m pretty unreachable) so preferably some options that are quite near each other (read: walking?)

We have already been to Shedrick elephant orphanage, Nairobi national museum and Karen Blixen.
Time period 8/10 - 3 Friday.

I have considered the GoDown Art Centre and/or Nairobi Gallery, but I really don’t know and would appreciate tips :)

Hi Anja, the Nairobi Gallery is ideal as it's located in the CBD, you can also visit the national archives which is also within walking distance and also the National Theater and or the National parliament buildings and the city market.

However before i can be in a position to advice as to the best places for you, I would appreciate if you could furnish me with your exact location in Nairobi.

kind regards,

Hi Anja. Welcome to Nairobi.
First you dont have to worry about inaccesibility. You can easily get a local simcard and be able to access the network.
For the commuting, local buses or swvl buses which are economical and safe and people are receptive hear.
You can consider visiting some cool places like Aboretum which is free. You can also consider attending to Jazz music, poetry, spoken words or other parties which can be booked onlime through

Have fun!!

Hello Anja

Great that you're or will be in Kenya. Tons to see and do for a female travelling alone.
If you're uninterested in 'Ubering' everywhere I suggest you download SWVL and use that ti get around. Its truly our version of safe and sane public transport.
Your chosen destinations are fantastic and top of my list. These together with
1. Kitengela Glass and a cross over on the stick bridge. Not for the fainthearted.
2. Lunch at Rolf's place while you're on that side
3. Dinner with drinks at 'The Terrace' or 0le Sereni on Mombasa Road is fabulous. If you're there at around 6 you get to see all the animals.

Do call me when you're in Nairobi for more to do. Weavers. African Craft expos coming up in the next week. I can do the walkabout with you at a fee if you like. Let me know.

Best regards.
