Hi
we are hiring a car 11th Aug and have one day to see Pompeii, Amalfi coast or Sorento or somewhere you might suggest to return to Naples. Is this possible time wise, hoping to do Pompeii on way have a late lunch somewhere around Amalfi coast or Sorento area. Any suggestions on places to see.

From 12th we will continue driving up to Rome, is coastal or inland route better, suggestions of place must see or to stop for lunch.

quite impossible (timewise)
you can rule out Sorrento (not worth), but Amalfi coast (minimum Amalfi, Ravello and Positano) and Pompei deserve at least one day each.
And you're still missing Ercolano.

the coast is all beautiful, perhaps very expensive.
