Back in the days i would say no to this neighborhood which is known as "Hells Kitchen". This address is located between 10th and 11th avenues and is safe as far as NYC hoods go with a noticeable police presence. There is a large bus terminal located on 42nd st and 8th ave and sometimes you may spot some seedy people or panhandlers who are usually not aggressive. The Times Square subway is on 42nd st and 8th ave and the Intrepid museum is walkable about 6 long blocks, the Theatre district is about 4 blocks north. Pubs, bars and restaurants are close to this address but not hard to find anywhere in NYC. You may want to avoid going west of this address at night as the hood becomes desolate towards the river. I hope this helps, good luck

Depends what you're looking for? Obviously you're close to Time Square so lots of tourists, and you're right by all the Broadway Show theaters. If you're in town and want to be right by all the hustle and bustle this is a great area. The food in this area is mostly big chains. Not really local spots. For food you're not far from Hell's Kitchen just head further west. My personal favorite in that area is Bar Bacon. But, the area you suggest is near major public transportation. There will be a lot open late and you're near all the huge stores. I hope this is helpful!

Not sure what you plan to do there, but you are three long avenue blocks from Times Square, which is one of the most populated, busy intersections in all of Manhattan. As you go further west it gets crowded and is really not much of anything. Just a lot of commercial buildings, storefronts, etc. It's not all that interesting.

You are right across the street from the Midtown South Task Force (police precinct) and you have storage for trucks and vans on that block. The area is good a few blocks north in that it's more residential but 42nd Street so far west is rather industrial and desolate at night.

lots of development in this area and far from the subway (at least far by nyc standards). lacks any cohesive community or neighborhood feel as it is all luxury high rises and construction sites.

Hi Lorena,

What is that you are after?
The place looks very central and the mid-upper West side is pretty. However the postcode you sent is quite close to the Lincoln Tunnel so could be noisy.

Plenty things to do a few blocks away anyway, with theatres, restaurants, bars and museum all walking distance.

Oh! I noticed that some people mentioned this is close to times square. It's not anything like Times Square. You're actually rather far in NYC terms because the Avenues are long, so you will get none of the foot traffic. During the months I mentioned earlier, you will get some people coming from the Intrepid Museum (an awesome spot), but IMO that is more a normal amount of foot traffic for NYC vs. what I would call touristy foot traffic.
Also, 42nd street is also not the UWS. It's like... South Midtown West. If your address had an even number, it would not even be considered Hell's Kitchen, but kind of this no-man's land of Chelsea. Still, if you get a good rate or you're airbnb-ing in one of the buildings there, they tend to be some of the nicer amenity places in the city. Enjoy!

It's less of a neighborhood and more of an address. You live there because you like the high rises that are there, their amenities, but you don't hang out there. It's convenient because the lack of a neighborhood has all of the buildings in that area having buses that take you back toward the city. In the spring through fall (above 65degrees) it's fine because you are near West Side Highway and that is just lovely. In the winter, it's brutal because the wind off the water, the length of the avenues and the large buildings make for a very uninteresting long walk (avenues are 2-3x the length of streets). The apartments are extremely nice though and I have suggested exactly those buildings for friends that have to commute to Jersey for work. feel free to message me separately.

Its fine. I grew up there. It is very busy because of Broadway and Times Square. It is safe and all of Manhattan is gentrifying rapidily so most places are safe. Of course you always have to watch yourself like everywhere.

The neighborhood is certainly fine. You're far enough west to stay clear from foot traffic coming from the port authority. However you might find it annoying to access subways from 10th ave

Very close to the heart of touristy things so I don't like it. Also, far from most public transportation. All the way west.

Terrible! Right next to the heart of tourist central. No subways nearby. Good views, I assume. But you're probably not coming to NYC to stay indoors.
