If you want weird you could try Ripleys Believe it Or Not in Manhattan, Fuego 718 in Brooklyn or the Flea Market on Broadway in Manhattan. Fuego and the Flea Market but have handmade gifts from all over the world so I would definitely try those two.

I hope this helps you find the perfect gift.

I think everyone here has the right idea with the area North of Little Italy (NoLIta). On weekends there are often vendors selling crafts outside around the Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral. I also think the East Village has a bit to offer here, too. One of my favorite spots is Exit 9 Gift Emporium. There's a few cute spots in the West Village as well, like Greenwich Letterpress.

Primarily Chinatown and Little Italy. Particularly, Canal and Mulberry Streets are where you can find these types of shops.

Artists & Fleas! Itโ€™s an open marketplace for independent merchants to sell their beautiful items! It has artistic vendors with one of a kind items, silly gifts, homemade jewelers, and just lots of random and interesting things!
There are a few locations in NYC:
Manhattan (Soho and Chelsea Market)
Brooklyn (Williamsburg)
