The other answers are great, but my personal fave is Domodomo. It's in the village on Houston street. You can see details about it in my tips. There's also a new, very small sushi counter that does Omokase for $100pp and has the only female sushi chef in the city. It's called Sushi by Bae. I haven't been yet, but I've heard amazing things.

15 East is mine and my husbands favorite if you're looking for high end sushi that's still not over-the-top expensive. There is also a casual but still elegant/romantic vibe in there, service and ambience is not uptight or stuffy. They have 1 Michelin star and reservations are not impossible to get.

Sushi Yasuda 204 E 43rd st reservations are required 2 weeks ahead. If you sit at the sushi bar you are assigned your own personal chef. Tipping is not permitted as per Japanese tradition.

Depends on your budget and where you're willing to go in Manhattan. Sushi Yasaka on West 72nd Street is great, Sugarfish has great fish as well.
