Sunny's Bar

Why locals love it

Sunny's Bar is an off-the-beaten path dive bar loved dearly by its regulars, and named after its owner, Red-Hook local Sunny Balzano. After it was devastated by Hurricane Sandy, Sunny's was out of commission for almost an entire year. There was even the chance that the bar wouldn't reopen, which had the citizens of Red Hook up in arms.

Why you should visit it

Voted Best Bluegrass Bar in NYC by Village Voice in 2011, Sunny's Bar is a Brooklyn staple because it is a cozy and humble dive bar that sells cheap PBRs and invites musicians of all disciplines to join their bluegrass hootenanny. You should not miss Sunny's Bar if you are a fan of bluegrass and a cheap, ol' fashioned good time.

Special tip

Go early on Saturday nights to get a seat in the back where the bluegrass band plays.
